Tonogodhime sounds too simple to work… am I missing something?

I keep seeing “tonogodhime” described as no frame, no posts, no wire… just stacking logs like a little cabin. That honestly sounds like a pile waiting to fall apart. How is that not a mess after the first rain/wind?

The “why” is the alternating 2×2 layers. It’s not random piling—each layer crosses the one below at 90° and the corners lock in. Once it settles a bit, it’s sturdier than my old leaned stacks ever were.

I was skeptical too. My “secure” lean-to was the one that fell over because the support rotted. Tonogodhime has nothing to fail except gravity, and gravity is doing the work for you.
